Single-Vehicle Crash In Indianapolis Construction Zone Kills One

May 2, 2012 | Auto Accident

May 2, 2012

The importance of driver vigilance in construction zones was highlighted by a crash early Wednesday that claimed the life of a young driver. According to WISHTV-8 News, the accident happened at around 3:00 a.m. near the 6600 block of Grandview Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana, which was closed for roadwork.

Reports from officers with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department who responded to crash scene stated that it appeared as if the driver of a white Chevrolet pickup truck was heading southbound along the road when he collided with a piece of construction machinery. The impact of the collision sent the pickup truck flying off the road and into a stand of trees near the highway. The vehicle then burst into flame with the driver still inside the wreckage. By the time rescue crews responded, there was nothing they could do to save the man.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, 667 fatal crashes were reported in highway construction zones in 2009. More than half of these accidents can be attributed to a vehicle colliding with construction equipment of some kind.

Indiana Auto Accidents in construction zones are also responsible for killing dozens of highway workers each year. That’s why the Indiana Personal Injury Lawyers with Stewart and Stewart Injury Lawyers ask that motorists work to keep Indiana’s highways safe by paying extra close attention to the road when passing through a construction zone.
